The water dispenser family concept is a testament to the designers' ability to combine form and function. The design is minimalistic, with a picturesque contrast of planar and curved surfaces, emphasizing the intrinsic function of the appliances with different reflective material finishes. The front face of the dispenser is accessible and features a spacious offset spout, ensuring seamless use for a variety of container sizes. The layered composition of geometric shapes allows for easy cleaning and open flexibility on busy countertops.
Each product consists of seven key parts, most of which are produced with plastic injection molding. The top part of the spout is made from Aluminium, casted, CNC milled, and then anodised. The bottom part is made from chrome-plated plastic resin. The smallest part, the rippled dispense button, is coated with electroforming. This compelling real-material contrast to the plastic adds to the design's uniqueness.
The water dispensers are designed with the needs of Chinese households in mind. The designers conducted an exhaustive scenario exploration of user-centric factors in Chinese kitchens. They surveyed various users of water appliances, thoroughly assessing the pain points people expressed. These ranged from hard to use interfaces, insufficient child safety, splashing water, complicated cleaning, unsuitability for large containers, and bulky form factors. The design addresses these issues, offering a solution that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
The design project kicked off in August 2015 and finished in October 2015. The products were officially launched into the market in May 2016. Since then, the design has been recognized for its innovation and excellence. It was awarded the Golden A' Home Appliances Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding and trendsetting creation that advances art, science, design, and technology.
Overall, the 'Liquid Architecture' water dispenser family concept is a perfect example of how design can transform everyday objects. It is a blend of functionality and aesthetic appeal, inspired by the form language of pristine water surfaces and the minimal aesthetic of scientific laboratories. It is a testament to the designers' ability to combine form and function in a way that is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
